Ningbo is a coastal city in the eastern Chinese province of Zhejang, one of 15 sub-provincial cities and -after Hangzhou – the second most important city in this province. It is the economic center of the southern wing of the Yangtze River Delta and a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. Due to its industrial base, Ningbo is the first pilot city of “Made in China 2025”. Since the reform and opening up, modern production systems have been built up in the country, based on political opportunities, the benefits of ports and the vitality of the private sector, and a multitude of well-known companies and brands with products of high reputation and strong domestic and international. Currently, Ningbo is working on the new development concept, actively implementing the strategy of manufacturing and strengthening the city, and is aiming “to label the world-class industry and become a national demonstration pioneer”.

The Smart Industry Academy’s approach, together with the network from Germany and the partners in the industrial metropolises on site, is to advance knowledge transfer across many areas of state-of-the-art production technology.
